Gaila Garber, chair,  has organized a leisurely 2-hour float down the  Chippewa River.  She will be coordinating boat reservations, lunch and general information.

Leave from Lansing to Canoe Livery TBA.

  • 11:00 a.m. Drive from the canoe livery via van to the river’s drop-off point.
  • June 12, (2 weeks in advance) deadline to hold a boat reservation.
    • Notify Gaila (send email garberg13@gmail.com or cell: 248-798-7485) with the following info:
      • Giving your name & partner,
      • Contact number & email,
      • Boat type–canoe/kayak.
  • June 22,  If you need to cancel, you will need to call Gaila by June 22. There will be a charge for no-shows on the card that is on file!

COST:  (2-hour float)

  1. Canoe for 2: $40
  2. Single Kayak $25
  3. Double Kayak $45
    Arrive 30 minutes early to do your individual payment for each boat and sign a waiver by each person. No glass or Styrofoam containers allowed on the river! Carry out what you carry in! The local sheriff’s department scouts the river.  Coolers are acceptable.  

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Suggest you tie down your cooler, bring water shoes, a personal water bottle, snacks that are stored and nonperishable, and seal electronics (key flops, cell phones) in a water tight container that is attached to individual or leave in an accessible place (locked car). It’s good to bring sunscreen, a hat, and have a change of clothes & towel in the car or wear a swimsuit on the river trip–planning for warm weather  😉

MISC INFO:

The drop-off and pickup areas have pit toilets and possibly picnic areas.
The outfitters will provide transportation to/from the river.
The walk to the river from parking is at its longest is 15 feet.
The river averages a 3 ½ ft depth, and approximately 50-70 ft wide.

Lunch will be decided at a local restaurant near Mt. Pleasant the day of the trip.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS:

It is 78 miles one-way to Mt. Pleasant from Lansing via I-127, approximately 1 hour 25 minutes average speed/construction considerations.  Exit onto the business loop (US-27), Mission Street for Mt Pleasant.  You will turn west (left) on W Broomfield St and take it to S Lincoln Rd.  Turn north (right) to go to the livery.
